Arts organisations and galleries specialising in the sale of contemporary art and craft by living artists have until Monday 6 February next year to apply to join the Arts Council Own Art scheme.
Own Art makes it easy and affordable for people to buy contemporary art and craft by allowing them to spread the cost of their purchase over 10 months with an interest free loan. It’s currently operated through over250 member galleries across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, providing plenty of opportunities for people all over the country to start a collection of their own from as little as £10 per month.
Own Art membership can be a valuable tool for galleries in encouraging new audiences and increasing sales. 52% of member galleries surveyed at the end of 2010/11 said that the scheme had made a ‘significant impact’ on their business.
If you know of an arts organisation or gallery that you think might benefit from joining the Own Art scheme, please contact the Arts Council and who will encourage them to apply. The closing date is Monday 6 February 2012.

The Clore Leadership Programme has opened applications for two of its residential programmes. The Short Course is two weeks long and is designed for people in the middle ranks of larger cultural organisations or those near the top of smaller ones, who have a minimum of 5 years’ work experience.
The Emerging Leaders course is aimed at those with between 3 – 5 years’ experience of working in the arts. The exact content of each course differs, but the courses all share the same aim, that of providing intensive personal development, an examination of the nature of good leadership and an introduction to key areas of expert knowledge essential to effective cultural leadership.
For further information about the course including fees and dates and venues please visit the website at www.cloreleadership.org or contact alisha.whittington@cloreleadership.org or on 020 7420 9434.

We are calling for applications to be part of Manchester Day Parade on Sunday 10th June 2012. The Parade, now its 3rd year, is a large scale community procession celebrating the city of Manchester and what it means to be Mancunian.
This year’s theme is The Sky’s The Limit…a celebration of heroic achievements. We want community groups, volunteers, and organisations throughout the city to come forward with ideas inspired by this theme, and with the energy and commitment required to turn those ideas into an amazing parade that fills the city centre. Walk the Plank’s professional artists will support selected groups throughout the creative process.
From our sporting heroes to our young people and senior citizens who give their time and effort as volunteers, they all deserve a moment in the spotlight, helping us to make the 2012 Parade be the best yet.
- The Sky’s the Limit for people like us - individuals and communities, Commonwealth Games volunteers ten years on, the unsung heroes of the city.
- What historical achievements – political, industrial, cultural – would you like to celebrate? And what would you change now if the sky was your only limit?
- Manchester’s scientists have been hailed as heroes of the technological world across the globe – from Turing’s computer to Siemens innovations, let’s celebrate the heroic achievements of the scientific world, homegrown and otherwise.
- Manchester’s music scene is one of the most famous: from Charles Halle’s founding of the Halle Orchestra in 1858, to Antony H Wilson’s Factory Records, from the Hacendia to the Stone Roses – let’s hear Manchester’ voices.
- Inventions that have altered the world as we know it have come from ordinary people thinking differently. What inventions would you come up with if your imagination was given full flight?
- The Sky’s the Limit – from Olympic record beaters and footballing heroes to the young stars of today’s sports clubs. What’s your personal best?
- The Sky’s the Limit – from things that fly to the mythical creatures who inhabit the heavens above, the world is full of amazing creatures and astonishing natural phenomenon
