Artist for Crewe Town Centre, Cheshire East Council (deadline: 26 Feb 2017)

Crewe Town Council and Cheshire East Council invite proposals for public art in Crewe town centre. We are seeking artists to provide creative solutions to cover the windows in some empty shop units.

The art should involve the local community during the design or making process, and be inspired by Crewe’s heritage and future. We particularly welcome ideas marking the 180th anniversary of the first train coming to Crewe. The public engagement element might be targeted at schools, community organisations or the general public.

The art must be easily removable in case the unit is commercially let. The media might include vinyls, chalk paint, posca pens or another creative solution which will brighten the town centre. The overall project comprises 2 empty shop units and a large banner. Artists can send proposals for all or any individual element.

We are interested in hearing from artists who have:

– Experience of producing public art

– Knowledge of the Crewe’s heritage

– Experience of using public engagement / participation to produce art

Budget for the commission is a maximum of £4,500 to include all fees, design, production, public engagement and installation. The selected artist(s) will need to commence work swiftly, with the project completed before Easter. The selected artist(s) should have their own public liability insurance and provide evidence of a DBS check.

Please send a short summary of your proposed artwork identifying how you will meet the objectives, including an outline of how you will involve the public, no more than 4 drawings or images to support your proposal, a CV and short biography, and a detailed budget breakdown. Wolfson Foundation -Theatres Trust Urgent Repairs Scheme

Theatres Trust has now launched the Urgent Repairs Scheme, a new fund set up in partnership with the Wolfson Foundation to enable both large and small theatres to deliver urgent building repairs. The scheme is open to all theatres operating a year-round programme of live performance with no less than 30 performances a year; theatres that are not statutory listed will need to demonstrate the architectural significance of their building.   There will be two funding rounds in 2017; the first round will close on the 15th March 2017 with a further round closing on the 16th September 2017.

Funding for Innovation in the Circus Arts

The National Centre for Circus Arts has announced that the Lab:time programme has re-opened for applications. Lab:time is the Centre for Circus Arts programme for innovation and experimentation in the Circus Arts and is funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. Through Lab:time individual artists and companies are able to secure research and development time in the Creation Studio at the National Centre for Circus Arts, as well as small but significant amounts of seed funding to support the first stages of exploration. It is hoped that by offering artists the means to explore their ideas at the very beginning of the creative process critical mass of creative development will be generated that will, over time, generate an increase in the quality and quantity of new circus-based performance across the UK.

The deadline for applications will be 5pm on the 16th March 2017. Read more at: http://www.nationalcircus.org.uk/professional-artists/labtime
