ART PARK – Artist Call for Site Specific Public Artwork, Deco Publique (deadline: 10 Mar 2017)

Open Call for Artists and Collectives to design and complete art works at public realm locations at the site of former art deco lido and Dome Arena on Morecambe’s seafront.

Deco Publique are leading the art-led development of the former Dome site with a proposal for ‘Art Park’. The 4,000 sq m space on Morecambe’s Promenade has a long history of architectural and spatial change. At present the site is vastly underutilised and provides little functional value for the community. Through a range of creative interventions, the aim is to transform an underutilised arena into a community space at the heart of the seafront.

“Art Park will be a vibrant, multi functional public space where visitors and residents can experience cultural programming, play, relax and enjoy the beautiful, safe surroundings in an enviable environment.”

The Art Park concept will be developed using an incremental approach – this Open Call is the first creative work within Phase 1. Heritage themes are appropriate in this context where the presentation of imagery must resonate with users of the space. Artworks should enhance the seafront profile and designs must work with surrounding landscape of beach and sea. Whilst heritage may occur as themes, visually contemporary proposals are welcome, in line with the aspiration to create a vibrant public space.

Note that applications are welcome for one site, or a combination of sites

Site 1: £6000

Public art applied to two art deco style arched walls that follow the curve of the seawall, featuring adjoining cylindrical planters.

Site 2: £2950

Public art applied to one cylindrical pump house structure, situated next to the arched walls.

Site 3: £2000

Floor Treatments across an allocated space within the expanse of flooring, used to define zones, provide playful activities through track systems, trails, playful routes, interactive shapes, games and patterns that animate the environment.

Commission total’s are inclusive of VAT, materials and installation costs, travel and accommodation expenses.
