Have Your Say – Greater Manchester Culture Strategy

GREATER Manchester is known globally for its significant contribution to culture, which is why the Culture Strategy for the city-region sets out to build on this, and to develop Greater Manchester as the best place in the world to create, participate and engage with culture and heritage.

You can help shape the future of Greater Manchester’s cultural offerings by feeding into the consultation of the draft strategy that has been published today (September 25).

The six-week consultation will inform the development of the plan which provides an opportunity to ensure that culture is relevant, representative and accessible to all of residents of Greater Manchester.

As part of the consultation, an event will be held in each borough of Greater Manchester giving local residents the chance to have their say on the strategy.

Venturespring Ignite Programme Open to Boost Scale-up Firms

This is corporate accelerator aiming to match scale-up companies in the UK with various corporate businesses. One tech start-up will be selected to attend a week-long summit at Sir Richard Branon’s Necker Island.

The Venturespring Ignite Programme is a corporate accelerator which aims to match scale-up companies with various corporate businesses. The initiative will act as a growth vehicle to inspire, invest in, and guide start-ups to success. The funder’s vision is to inspire leaders to empower growth-driven start-ups to build a better world and to achieve this vision the funder is ‘bridging the gap’ between start-ups and corporations to empower technology ventures to grow and prosper faster.

The programme is looking for applicants who can solve corporate problems – with special emphasis placed on start-ups working across mobility, lifestyle, media, aerospace, travel, fintech, healthtech, AI, AR, VR and retail.

Venturespring Ignite Startup benefits include:

  • Investment of between $10,000 – $100 million through a corporate and institutional investor network and or fund.
  • Access to investors both corporate and institutional depending on preferences.
  • Access to key corporate executives enabling the participant to navigate large corporate organisations for resources including investment – quickly and effectively.
  • Strategic corporate match making for long term partnership opportunities to help ventures commercialise and gain access to whatever it is that they need.
  • Exclusive access to and deployment of hard-to-reach corporate resources that will allow the venture to move on to the next level.
  • An invitation to a Summit on Necker Island, where the business will have the opportunity to meet with the world’s most successful business leaders
  • An opportunity to hear Summit speakers discuss key trends and the types of corporate resources available to start-ups.

Innovative start-up businesses from across all sectors and individuals who have new ideas and technologies will be eligible to apply. Applicants should be seeking to accelerate their development.

Pure Talents Contest 2019 Offers Design Industry Support and Cash Prizes

The Pure Talents Contest, organised by imm Cologne; one of the largest tradeshows for interior design worldwide, is an award for young

product designers.

Over the last fifteen years 436 products from 482 international designers had been presented in the annual exhibition during imm cologne.

In its sixteenth edition in 2019, again up to 20 designers or designer groups will be invited to Cologne to present their prototypes to the

interior design business in the special exhibition of the Pure Talents Contest.

The product categories are: furniture, home accessories, lighting, flooring, wallpaper and textiles, kitchen and kitchen accessories & smart

home.

All selected designers will receive the label ‘PURE TALENTS CONTEST Nominee’ which can be used for their own communication

purposes. Furthermore, all the designers are invited to Cologne, and imm Cologne grants an individual financial support for travelling and

accommodation of the designers as well as the shipment of the selected products.

From the final Jury the first three winners of the competition are selected and awarded with a prize money of €3,000 for the first prize,

€2,000 for the second prize and €1,000 for the third prize. The award for the LivingKitchen Selection is endowed with a prize money of

€3,000.

The competition is open to design students and designers from around the world that graduated within the last three years. Design teams

are also invited to participate; however, each team may only have a maximum of three members.

Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary – Call for 2019 Submissions

A bursary programme providing an opportunity for disabled artists based in the UK to develop their ideas and practice without pressure to deliver a particular outcome.

This Bursary is offered is in memory of Adam Reynolds, who died in 2005. Adam was a Chair of Shape and renowned sculptor and activist for disability equality in the arts. Shape is a charitable company aiming to achieve access to the arts for disabled people.

The Bursary provides an opportunity for disabled artists to develop their ideas and practice without pressure to deliver a particular outcome. The successful applicant receives a grant of £10,000 and a three-month residency with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts, Gateshead from 4 March to 30 April 2019.

The residency will include developing and delivering public-facing activities and showing work as part of the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary Shortlist exhibition. The artist will also benefit from support and advice from the professional development team at Shape.

The Bursary intends to provide time, space and support for artists to work in an open-ended way for a period of three months. The grant may be used to cover any costs associated with this work, for example:

  • Buying or hiring equipment.
  • Purchasing materials.
  • Living expenses to free up time to concentrate on the residency.

Disabled contemporary artists based in the UK may apply to this programme.

The 2018 submission deadline for the 2019 Bursary is 12 noon on 1 October 2018

‘Music on Tick’ – a new Youth Music funded project from Mr One Million CIC

photodune-10373683-the-power-of-music-l (800x660)In March 2017, Mr One Million will be running weekly music sessions for young people living in Bolton looking for new skills and hands-on experience of roles within the music industry.  The sessions will include: music production, running a label, lyric writing, instrumental playing skills, MCing and DJing, event management & live performance.  Young people can also work towards live events, accreditation and further learning or employment opportunities.

Mr One Million CIC is a not-for-profit social enterprise based in the North West. We engage unemployed and/or vulnerable communities in creative projects that explore health and wellbeing and worklessness through film, theatre, music and art. Our projects are fundamentally about using creativity to bring about positive change- on a personal, community and global level.

Mr One Million started life 4 years ago as an arts and media programme commissioned by Bolton at Home and delivered by freelance community artist and project manager Paul Hine. The programme aimed to engage young unemployed men aged 18 to 24 years old living in Breightmet, Bolton.

Since then we have delivered a range of creative projects and events – including films, documentaries, music videos, visual art, magazine shows and an adult puppet show exploring men’s health. All of our projects have involved us helping participants develop arts and media skills and improve team work, communication, independent learning, confidence and self worth.
