Short Story Anthology – Open for Submissions

 Submissions Guidelines

Deadline for Submissions : Friday 1st September 2017

Short Story Submissions are invited for entries to Live from Worktown’s 2017 Anthology as later this year we will be celebrating Bill Naughton’s life and work with a festival in Bolton.

Please read the guidance carefully. We are looking for short stories that in some way concern a) Childhood in the North (any time from the 60s to the present) or b) Change In the North (any time from 2000 to the present) . You may submit part of a longer piece of work in which case tell us what it is from: e.g. the following extract is from a longer essay “Bolton in the 1960s” written in 2006.

Your submission must not have been published elsewhere

Entries must be submitted by email only and should be as separate attachments bearing only your name, the title of the piece, and the work itself. In the main body of the email include your personal details including name, address, post code, title of piece(s) submitted and any relevant supplementary information (max. 50 words).

Entries submitted by any other means will not be accepted.

You should follow the following guidance carefully as entries falling outside the guidelines will be excluded.

You can submit up to 2 entries which must be fiction.

Submissions should be no more than 900 words per entry.

Entries should be linked to the theme of either a) Childhood in the North (any time from the 60s to the present) or b) Change In the North (any time from 2000 to the present). We would be particularly interested in contemporary accounts of life in Bolton.

Submissions should be made by email with attachment (doc or docx).

Submissions can be made by post but entries will not be returned so keep a copy.

In both cases entries should be typed double spaced, minimum font size 11, preferably Times New Roman or Courier New.

We are looking to include about 30 pieces of work. It is unlikely that all work submitted can be chosen but no feedback will be offered on submissions that are unsuccessful.

Deadline for submissions Friday, 1st September 2017. We will inform you if you have been successful. All work published will remain the copyright of the author and no use will be made of the work other than in this anthology without the express permission of the author.

All successful entrants will be invited to an Anthology launch event (to be arranged at a later date) and given one complimentary copy. Additional copies may be purchased at £5.00.

Editorial policy : the editors have no wish to censor submissions but reserve the right to refuse material that they judge to be actually or potentially offensive, racist, sexist or homophobic. Similarly whilst recognising that vernacular and dialect have distinct and non-standard grammar and spelling, the editors reserve the right to standardise obvious misspellings and grammatical inaccuracy, in the interests of producing an industry-standard publication of quality.
