U. Dance Fresh Takes – Call for Films

Youth Dance England and South East Dance are looking for fresh new dance films made by or featuring young people that are less than 10 minutes in length for screening at U.Dance 2012 at Southbank Centre in London in July 2012. If you have a dance film made in the past two years, which you would like to be considered for inclusion in the event, please submit your film to us.

Deadline for entries is Friday 30th March 2012

Download the application form following the link below and Email a completed form along with a link to your dance film online and send us two high quality images from your film (minimum of 300 dpi) in JPEG format to: emily.james-farley@southeastdance.org.uk

A screening fee will be available to applicants whose films are selected for inclusion in U.Dance 2012 subject to a license agreement. All entrants must hold all the relevant rights to agree distribution of the entered film. Preview copies will not be returned unless a SAE is supplied on entry. Entries may also be considered for other screening opportunities.

Fresh Takes is a South East Dance initiative delivered and co-produced with Youth Dance England for U.Dance 2012.

Dance Development Artist, Ludus Dance Centre (deadline: 13 Mar 2012)

Are you passionate about dance?

Are you creative and experienced in developing and delivering high quality participatory dance projects? Yes? Then Ludus Dance needs you!

The successful candidate will need to be able to inspire and connect with all sections of the community from those who are new to dance to the gifted and talented to get more people taking part in and making great dance.

You will be part of a small but dynamic team responsible for developing and delivering a range of high quality dance projects and initiatives primarily aimed at children & young people and for people and places with the least engagement.

As well as generating and managing new projects the post holder will also respond to small scale project inquiries providing the client with a project outline tailored to their needs and a budget

Where appropriate, you will be the dance artist working on the project and will manage it from start to finish. When additional or different skills are called for you will be responsible for contracting and managing freelance artists.

Salary: Up to £20,446 pro rata depending on experience.

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, flexible

Dance Artist/Practitioner, Blaze with Blackpool Council Arts Service (deadline: 24 Feb 2012)

Blaze and Blackpool Council are seeking expressions of interest from dance practitioners who would like to be considered to develop a new movement performance piece. It will be performed at three major events starting with the Torch Relay celebrations in June, Under The Town festival in August and representing Blackpool at the Preston Guild in September.

The successful practitioner will deliver sessions choreographing several sports and dance groups from Blackpool into one performance piece inspired by the movements present in the groups sporting activities and different dance styles. This could be, choreographing a Judo group with dance movements developed around their martial art actions, opposite a Hip Hop dance group, a Basketball team with dance movements developed around basketball actions and tricks opposite a musical theatre group.

This project has the values and themes of London 2012 at the centre of its thinking.

Young People Engagement
The starting point for this commission will be a consultation with the young people completing their Silver Arts Award, focusing on extracting their ideas for the performance including music, how to light and stage the performances at each event.

Budget
There is a fee of £1875 attached to this project which will cover your time for consultation meeting with Silver Arts Award young people, 12 sessions with groups and 3 performance days. Fees include travel and expenses.

Choreographer/Dance Company and Filmmaker, Blaze with Spearfish (deadline: 24 Feb 2012)

Over the past 2 years, Spearfish have been working with a core group of young producers from Accrington to deliver the Urban Culture Jam, a small festival that celebrates urban culture with live music, dance, parkour, BMX, skateboard and scooter competition/demos, fashion and free workshops.

Opportunity:
Blaze, Spearfish and a core group of young producers from Accrington are looking to commission a choreographer and a film maker to create an brand new piece of work in response to the theme of “chase”, that incorporates performance and film and is inspired by free running, BMX, skateboard and urban dance.

The new piece of work will involve working with other artists and young people from across Lancashire. The work will take place on a specially commissioned structure created by internationally renowned street artist Zedz and will be performed as part of the WE PLAY expo at Preston Guild, the culmination of the Cultural Olympiad in the North West.

Interviews will take place between March 5th and 16th March in Accrington, Lancashire.

Fee: Choreographer/Dance Company – £6,000.  Filmmaker – £1,500

Choreographer/Movement Director/Dance Artist, Blaze with More Music (deadline: 24 Feb 2012)

Context
In 2010 Blaze’s young producers in Blackpool commissioned Dan Fox from Sound Intervention to create the Boom Bike, a unique mobile sound system. In 2011 the project entered a new phase of development in partnership with More Music, resulting in the formation of the ‘Blaze Boom Bike Big Band’, an excellent, unique, flexible, dynamic, inspirational travelling performing outfit made up of talented young people aged between 15 -22 and Boom Bike creator, Dan Fox. This youth-led band have since performed to great acclaim at events throughout the Northwest. 2012 sees the third phase of development of the Band.

The project will widen participation and encourage involvement with young people across Lancashire exploring the relationship between art, sport and physical activity as well of course as developing the musical aspects of the project. The ambition for the Blaze Boom Bike Big Band is to create a high quality, excellent flexible performance ensemble comprising up to 35 young people as musicians, dancers or physical performers.

The Brief
Blaze, More Music and Sound Intervention are seeking to work with a dance artist/movement director/choreographer who will work with the Band to

  • increase the dance /physical aspect of the project
  • deliver creative workshops with young people in Lancashire
  • recruit performers for the ensemble
  • choreograph pieces for the ensemble
  • work with young people to create a large scale ensemble piece for performance at the Blaze Festival

Fee (dependent on funding): £2000
