Lightwaves 2015

We are delighted to announce that we are stepping up our game here at the Quays for this winter’s LIGHTWAVES 2015 digital light celebration. Three large-scale artworks will be illuminating the future city of the Quays/MediaCityUK from the 12th to 27th December every day (except Christmas Day) between 4:30 and 10:30pm.

Introducing the artworks:
CATHEDRAL OF MIRRORS is our new international commission on the Lowry Plaza – by Danish USA-based artist Mads Christensen. This interactive lightwork of towering pillars and beauty glows brighter as more people gather into its centre. This follows on from the success of the Aeolian Light sculpture last year, finalist of the international Lumen Prize. Presented in partnership with the University of Salford.

AMAZE by Icelandic artist Marcos Zotes sees a large, futuristic, architectural maze constructed on the Piazza of MediaCityUK. The public can wander through this projected and physical maze as the light and colours continuously change in this immersive experience.

INTRUDE by Australian artist Amanda Parer is an acclaimed work of five enormous illuminated rabbits that have hopped their way around global cities. These charming and intriguing inflated sculptures will delight and charm audiences.

LIGHTWAVES is free to the public and a growing part of the festive attractions in Greater Manchester. The engaging and inspiring art we present here has become an established part of the Quays experience.
