Call for artists: Farnworth Arts Festival 2012 (deadline: 18 May 2012)

Expressions of interest are invited from artists for

Farnworth Arts Festival 2012

Farnworth Arts Festival is in its eighth year and invites Artists to submit an expression of interest to deliver creative workshops and produce art works inspired by this years theme, Olympics/Olympiad, in a variety of media and art forms, working within the Farnworth community. 

Artists will be required to run one taster workshop or up to four mini workshops to create a mini project. Workshops will be set within the community and schools across Farnworth Area. 

Artists are encouraged to submit a suggestion for art work that can either be exhibited in a limited space exhibition (display area sheet can be downloaded at the following link Art Festival Exhibition – Display Board Sizes).

Artist proposals should be a brief written outline with explanatory notes and sketches on no more than 2 sides of A4 paper. The workshop suggestions will be put before the festival steering group and successful applicants will be notified by letter and matched to community group expression of interests.

You should state clearly how many sessions your art form will take to complete, including; a cost for session(s) delivery, planning including research and preparation, materials. (see costing sheet at the following link Art Project costing Sheet – sample

Candidates should indicate their availability from 9th June up to 15th July 2012. Artist can submit as many proposals as they wish detailing different approaches, mediums and outcomes. Artist must provide a CV outlining their contact details, experience of previous work including one A4 sheet of relevant images of previous work with evidence of their current CRB enhanced check. (if you do not have a CRB in place we cannot organize this for you. If you prefer to work with a certain age group type please state (age/ability etc).

Arts Room website launched across Greater Manchester

The Arts Room website provides freelance artists / creative organisations and their potential clients with a range of services which can all be accessed and managed online. These include:

Online Practitioner Directory

The site provides artists and creative organisations with a platform to advertise their services and each artist / organisation creates a profile page to promote their work. Once registered they can change / edit their profile as necessary, simply by logging in. Potential clients can currently access a database of over 170 potential creative partners across a range of art forms providing a wealth of creative offers.

Inspiration Bank

This includes a directory of “off the shelf” workshops and packages that potential employers can book. Artists can input these online and manage how they tailor and promote their work independently as well as getting an overview of where their offer sits amongst other providers. It also includes a case study bank and artists and clients can post case studies themselves and share ideas and good practice.

Communication Hub

This provides a space to share creative and participatory news, events and opportunities from around Greater Manchester and beyond. Any registered arts room artist or client can post news stories or promote events and we will also be promoting our “creative connection” posts where members can post requests for advice, ideas, resources, potential partners and funders.

BBC Performing Arts Fund tuned to Music for 2012

This year the BBC Performing Arts Fund will be giving £450,000 to the  development of new music and new musicians through two new schemes – Community Music and Music Fellowships. Call for Artists: Bolton St Catherine’s Academy Legacy Project (deadline: 13 Apr 2012, 12 noon)

Bolton at Home’s Housing Percent for Art service is working with Bolton St Catherine’s Academy to recruit an experienced artist, arts organisation or creative collaboration to develop and deliver a creative legacy and innovative resource, bringing together material produced in a variety of media to communicate the aspirations of the students and the wider community.

Budget & Timescale

It is anticipated that the project will commence in May 2012, with content being delivered as an accessible resource prior to the Bolton St Catherine’s Academy official launch event in October 2012.

The budget for this work, which includes all fees, materials and expenses, is £5,000

Bolton St Catherine’s Academy is a publicly funded, independent school sponsored by David and Anne Crossland and the Church of England Diocese of Manchester providing free education to students of all abilities aged 4 to 19, and the Academy opened in September 2009 on two sites, both of which had previously housed predecessor schools – Withins High School and Top o’th’ Brow Primary School.  

Bolton at Home is a registered charity providing social housing and works in partnership with Bolton Council and other stakeholders to improve the social and economic conditions of the communities where its houses are located, as well as other disadvantaged areas in the Bolton borough.  Bolton at Home’s Housing Percent for Art service works collaboratively to engage and involve customers in innovative ways, and to develop and deliver arts in regeneration initiatives that focus on priority issues identified by Bolton at Home’s Neighbourhood Management Teams.
