Make It Look Good: Photographing Your Work

March 5, 2012
1:00 pmto5:00 pm

Waterside Arts Centre, Sale

£12 (plus £1.00 booking fee for card transactions)

Acclaimed photographers Jo and Christoph Shaw present a ‘do it yourself’ guide to photographing your own work. They reveal the tips and tricks to help you photograph your work to its best advantage – ideal for artists and creatives working in 2D and 3D. Learn how to best position your work, how to light it and bring out the details and perspectives you want to highlight.

This session is designed for artists working on a tight budget but who still need to promote their work. Jo & Christoph present a range of examples to photograph your work on both small and medium size budgets, from £50 to £200.

This workshop will help you understand your own digital camera – and give you the knowledge to move away from auto to customized settings, as well as understand how to use cheap lighting to make your work look its best.

Shaw and Shaw are award-winning photographers who have worked with the creative sector for many years. For more information on their work, see www.shawandshaw.co.uk

Tameside Youth Offending Team are seeking expressions of interest from artists with experience of delivering sessions with challenging young people.

We are delivering a Creative Year of various arts activities to our young people so are interested in hearing from a range of practitioners.  We are particularly interested in visual art, music and percussion, film, photography and dance.

Whilst a previous conviction would not necessarily preclude appointment, an enhanced CRB check will be required.

Please e-mail your expression of interest to Sally Dickin (sally.dickin@tameside.gov.uk) outlining your previous relevant experience and a description of your art form.  Please feel free to refer to specific projects but do not send a CV at this stage.

Apply to join the Own Art scheme

Arts organisations and galleries specialising in the sale of contemporary art and craft by living artists have until Monday 6 February next year to apply to join the Arts Council Own Art scheme.
Own Art makes it easy and affordable for people to buy contemporary art and craft by allowing them to spread the cost of their purchase over 10 months with an interest free loan. It’s currently operated through over250 member galleries across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, providing plenty of opportunities for people all over the country to start a collection of their own from as little as £10 per month.
Own Art membership can be a valuable tool for galleries in encouraging new audiences and increasing sales. 52% of member galleries surveyed at the end of 2010/11 said that the scheme had made a ‘significant impact’ on their business.
If you know of an arts organisation or gallery that you think might benefit from joining the Own Art scheme, please contact the Arts Council and who will encourage them to apply. The closing date is Monday 6 February 2012.
